Sigiriya - Get there, stay there, get around

Planning a trip to Sigiriya, Sri Lanka? Here are some basic information based on our experience.
TRANSPORTATION
We spent our first night in Colombo, so we just took a taxi upon arriving at the Colombo airport (there is a counter where you can pre-pay your taxi fare). We paid 30USD.
The next day, we had arranged transportation with our hotel in the Sigiriya area(170USD, one way for approximately 180km and a 4.5 to 5-hour drive. We paid less on the way back, around 120USD). I later found much cheaper prices on the website mentioned further below. As it was our first trip to Sri Lanka, we chose to rely on our hotel for transportation but being more familiar with the country,
Once in Sigiriya, we mostly got around in a Tuk-Tuk, which cost us from 25 to 30USD for each return trip (Lion rock / Pidurangala Rock / Dambulla Cave Temple). I am sure there was still room for negotiation, but we our Tuk-Tuk driver was so polite and professional that we were happy to pay him this amount and top it up with a tip. WEATHER
We used the following website to choose our destination based on the weather. And it has proven to be pretty reliable.
We were in Sri Lanka around the 24th of September. We had rain on our ride from Colombo to Sigiriya, and once, but only overnight, in Dambulla, which is where we were staying near Sigiriya.
It can get pretty hot during the day, so don't forget to plan your visits accordingly. We used to do one visit early in the morning, then another one later in the afternoon. In between, we just relaxed, enjoying the sun and the pool!
HOTELS

It was great, a little pricey, but we chose it because the booking was refundable and our dates were still not set at the time of booking.
